hi!! i’m isabel cañas, i’m a full-time writer living my best chaotic life between nyc & pnw.

tbh i’m here for a good time, not an organized/professional time. that said! one! must! hustle!

  • i wrote a Gothic horror novel called the hacienda. think the haunting of hill house in 19th-century mexico + a healthy dose of the hot priest from fleabag s2. out now!
  • i have a new novel out in august 2023 called vampires of el norte! it has hot vaqueros, monstrous vampires, western vibes, and heaping dose of romance
  • aaaaand i have some book-sized surprises in store for 2024 and 2025 👀

i also write short fiction! here’s a selection of my favorite things i’ve published, available to read free:

new post on ao3

it's a poem from eowyn's pov and i'm pretty proud of it, given it's my first ever post there!

an excerpt:

as she pulls the sword from its sheath, it is
a sound like birds taking flight,
a thousand wings, a thousand beaks turned skyward,
as one, they lift, and rise to azure autumn ski

there is no peace like being on a fic reading bender, truly not a brain cell to be found over here

going to start writing shitty poetry again idk might fuck around and post it here

i dont see why i cant start a trend, so here goes. lets try to build back our attention spans. lets try to focus on just one thing for as long as possible. lets not watch those "asmr for people with adhd" videos where they fuck up adhd folks even worse. lets resist the urge to reach for our phones when watching a movie. lets read the articles we reblog, even when theyre boring. i know its hard, i have adhd too, but its worth it. i also know that this hard work doesnt always seem super impressive to other people, so id love for yall to tell me in the tags or replies if youve done something, no matter how small, for your attention span. you deserve to feel like youve taken back some of what social media has ripped from you

NaNo Day 14

19,361 words and hanging in there. I wrote 5,500 words yesterday, 1,900 today. I’m nearing the end of the manuscript that i’m working on. A manuscript that I’ve been working on in some form or another since, like, I first had a nightmare that inspired it in August 2020. Really hoping to finish it tomorrow. I’m not looking forward to it, because a main character dies and writing that is stressful. I literally have such a tense jaw right now from the last two days of drafting leading up to the third act.

AH.

Anyway.

Thinking of being here more often. Everywhere else makes me tired.

That’s all.
